(v3.8) The Word “Cannot” If an effect has the word “cannot” in its description, then it is an absolute: That effect may not be overridden by other effects. For example, if Wildfire Assault is played, which has an effect that kills characters and “cannot be saved,” then a card like Kiss of Life that saves that character would not work. Also note that if a card cannot be saved, a player cannot even attempt to save it with a saving card or effect. Note, however, that Wildfire Assault may still be canceled, unless it has the text “cannot be canceled.” A character that cannot be killed/saved/etc. may not be chosen for that effect. For example, the House Florent Knight, which has the text “House Florent Knight cannot be discarded from play by any card effect,” could not be chosen by the controlling player as the target of a card like Marched to the Wall, which discards a card from play; however, the House Florent Knight will not be affected if it is the only character in play. |

The important thing in dealing with Cannot Be Killed (CBK hereon) is to remember the following two things: 1: A character with CBK cannot be chosen to be killed. This means that said character cannot be chosen as the target of a kill effect (i.e. Swing the Sword, Harrenhal), and cannot be chosen to die for Military Claim. Nor can a CBK character be chosen as your victim for Deadly.* This relates to your Wildfire situation due to the following: Wildfire asks that you choose (up to) three characters to NOT be killed. In no guise are you chosing characters to die: you are chosing characters to survive. Thus, the dragons do not have to be chosen as survivors for Wildfire assault (and you aren't chosing them to die, thereby bypassing the "don't chose to kill" part of #1). 2: If a kill effect would attempt to initiate on a CBK character (and this is now ANY CBK character), that kill effect has no effect. This "no effect" result is not a cancel, nor is it a save. The kill effect just doesn't work. Examples of when this can occur include Winter is Here, We Take It All!, Crushed at the Walls, and Wildfire Assault. This relates to the Wildfire situation because the Dragons not chosen are suppossed to be killed. However, their CBK text indicates that the kill has no effect. Therefore, the Wildfire will try to kill them and fail, leaving them alive, as well as the three characters you chose to survive. |

On the last tourney, we had a little disagreement about characters that cannot be killed and disintegration. One player argued that cards like Blood Magic could not be played on a character that cannot be killed because it is no legal target. I argued that the character cannot be killed, but suffers the -X STR though. Who's right? |

Since "lower STR, kill if 0" has two separate effects, CBK characters can be targets of the "lower STR" effect, even though they normally could not be targets of "kill" effects. So you are right. You can use Blood Magic on a CBK character and it gets the -X STR. However, it will not die, even if the STR becomes 0. |

I know that it was asked many times, but on Tzumainn it is too chaotic. Ser Davos Seaworth (VAL) "Cannot be killed" - means don't even try to kill him. Am I right? Cannot be killed means - Cannot be chosen to be killed. |

Correct. "Cannot be killed" means you cannot choose him to be killed. The confusion comes from the fact that at one time, Ser Davos had specific errata that ALLOWED him (and only him) to be chosen. But that's gone now. |
