(v3.13) Challenge Traits If a challenge has the Jousting trait, it loses the Jousting trait any time there is more than one attacker or more than one defender participating in the challenge. If a challenge has the Melee trait, it loses the Melee trait any time there are fewer than four participating characters in the challenge. |

Does the Melee or Jousting trait become automatic if the requirements are fulfilled or does it need to be specifically called like Specialization? |

You may want to check again on "Specialized." In most cases, you don't have to specifically "call" that, either. You answer depends on which effects are granting the challenge trait. If the trait is passive (e.g., Storm's End Tourney Grounds, Tourney Knight, King's Scribe), then the challenge gains the trait whether the player "calls" it or not. If a player attacks with JUST a Tourney Knight, the challenge is a Joust whether he wants it to be or not. You cannot refuse the Joust. If you attack with a King's Scribe, the challenge is Specialized whether you want it to be or not. You cannot refuse the Specialized. Like all passive abilities, if the conditions are met, you have no choice and cannot refuse the effect. However, if a player wants to use an event like Jousting Contest or Twist of Fate to give the challenge its trait, that is entirely up to them. They must choose to play the event and can either refuse to or forget. |
